Hi Everyone,

Unfortunately, and I mean unfortunately, the excellent
"Universe in Your Hands" exhibit on sundials and astrolabes
is in the original part of the Adler Planetarium which
is closed off now for refurbishing (I think until October).
The new part doesn't cover the topic much. Incidentally,
I was very disappointed that the old dome with the Zeiss
projector is closed during the same interval--however,
I was pleasantly surprised to see that the new Sky
Theater dome, with everything computer generated, was
really great, as were the updated exhibits and the
cafe with the beautiful lakefront view.

The Chicago Botanical Gardens also has a large dial very
similar to the Moore dial. During the NASS conference a
couple of years ago, we saw an analemmatic dial and a
brand new polar dial in Highland Park, but that was about
all around here. I don't recall the directions to those,
but if you can get to a suburb and would like, let me know
and I'll dig through the NASS Compendiums and see if I can
get some directions. It would be a drive, though. For
its size, there doesn't seem to be much in the way of
public sundials in Chicago.

The next nearest thing is the Time Museum in Rockford, but
that's a 90-minute trip each way, though a worthwhile one.
