Ben & Maggie Hoffman asked me about sources of Traffolite.
I thought it was worth sharing with the group.

This is what I have managed to find -
I have been spelling it wrongly - it is Traffolyte, manufactured by ICI -
but they have stopped making it.
There is an alternative called ABET, manufacturer unknown.

It is imported into the UK by:-

First Plastics Ltd
67-69 Castle Way
Southampton SO14 2AU
UK
Tel (44) 238 033 8788
Fax (44) 238 033 8789
They were unwilling to give me any information about where they import it
from - they do not have a web site or e-mail.

Technically it is called "Rigid Phenolic Engraving Laminate"

I have been able to purchase some from my local sign maker, who gets his
supplies from
Quantum Plastics
Huntsman House
Mansion Close
Moulton Park Northampton NN3 6LA
UK
Tel (44) 161 876 8833
(but they get their supplies from First Plastics - there seem to be a lot of
middle men, all getting their cut)

A web search for "rigid phenolic engraving laminate" gave a zero result, but
"engraving laminate" gave
www.techsoftuk.co.uk
a school supplier, who sell 24" x 24" sheets of various colours for £17.50,
which is a very expensive source.

I think a local sign maker must have some - signs made from the stuff are
everywhere.

Sorry I couldn't get more information for the USA.

Mike
