Fellow Shadow Watchers,
On the BSS mailing List, sometime last year, I
raised the notion of very limited 'commercial' announcements to be
followed up with a direct contact by anyone interested in what was
mentioned e.g. new products or items for exchange. As I understood it,
the majority of those who responded were in favour provided it did not
distract from the main purpose of the list. Since then I cannot recall a
single message offering items for sale etc. so I don't think we need
worry too much on that score.
As anyone who makes sundials for sale will confirm 'you can't sell
dials to dialists...they are too busy thinking of or making their own!'
Most of you will know that I regularly announce that JPEGs of certain
dial-making processes will be available to anyone making a direct request
to me and 115 List members currently subscribe to this 'sub-list'. There
is no charge for the service but the principle is the same and nobody has
complained so far that the occasional announcements are intrusive.
I've recently developed a pantographic process for making some rather
nice brass 'dial centres' with the sun-in-flames and a pleasant smiling
face. There must be a good number of List members who do not regularly
visit my website but who might find that useful information and would
want to request details.
Oh Dear!.....I've just made a commercial announcement! ;-)
