I believe the appeal of the group is its wide range of intellect and depth
of knowledge, not its ability to be a billboard for goods and
services. One mans "purchase opportunity" is surely another's junk mail.
I think Patrick's idea of a page probably on the British, American or
European Sundial Society websites dependant upon the service or item, its
location, portability or universal appeal makes good
sense.
A standard format for the pages could be suggested with a directory tree
with major classifications relating to various aspects e.g.
Sundial Design, Manufacture, Installation, Restoration, Research
each expanding to contain relevant sections as required.
E.g.. Manufacture - Metal - Engraving - Cutters -
Wanted
Research - Books - Greek
and Roman sundials - Offered
A simple notification and URL link could then be posted on the
newsgroup.
A similar process indicating new websites, interesting photos,
or program revisions currently operates without I think creating offence or
irritation.
Would the combined talents of the group be well applied to creating a
website or page format, and formulating an updating and reporting
procedure.
I appreciate that this may put an additional
workload on the various webmasters.
Perhaps an early opinion of the Webmasters and administrators could be
sought.
