You are right of course. I was really only replying to Ronit's question of how a 'staircase dial' might be made - not trying to guess what might have really been the Ahaz dial! There are examples around of ancient structures - like the stepped staircases on some of the pyramids in South America - where shadows of the sides to the stairs move up and down the steps in a way that could have been used to reflect a measure of time... Interesting to speculate... Patrick -
