Wow! I have learned more in 5 minutes reading your notes than in a whole
year. Like others who already commented, your insights are much appreciated. 

Literature on metalworking is very hard to find, certainly in Canada, most
certainly in the sticks where I live. Most information has been gleaned from
unrelated texts such as knife making books, knife magazines, jewellery
literature etc. There are some books out there, e.g. by Tim McCreight on
jewellery making which really do not go into much detail. I have even had a
go at electroplating at a cost of one car battery! So, if, as suggested, you
are going to write book about the technical side of dialling, I shall be the
first to buy it. Even better, make a video as well!

I am very keen to try engraving and have some books and a video coming on
the subject. My major concern in this is not so much the equipment as
possession of two left hands (which is why the computer etching technique
appealed to me).
