Hello Darek,

One example that may not be representative is a Greco-Roman Hemispherium
sundial at a museum near Ephesus, Turkey. This sundial has unequal hours marked
with Greek letters, Alpha, Beta, Gamma Delta etc. My pictures in this waymark
gallery show the letters clearly. See
http://www.waymarking.com/waymarks/WM837M_Roman_Sundial_Ephesus_Turkey and view
the pictures in the gallery.

Also note that the hours are marked: first hour, second hour etc, not the hour
lines.

Regards, Roger Bailey

Subject: Greek hour notation on ancient sundials

Dear Dialists

Is there any recognized internet recource on Greek hour notation on ancient
sundials? I only know they had a different (non-numberical) system of hours
marking. Can anyone help me with this?
