Hi!
Sun Ray 2.0 and earlier can work with ISO 7816 cards that use the "T=0"
transfer protocol. 2.0 knows how to extract a unique ID from about
twenty card families. What kind of card are you using? Does it support
T=0 transfers?
We have tested with a couple of different card including different type of Cryptoflex cards, GemPlus cards etc.... All should be ISO 7816 cards and support T=0 transfers....
The early Sun Ray releases, before 1.3 I think, could only recognise four or five card types including MicroPayflex and Payflex. These were recognised by the firmware.
The card LED should light even if you insert a T=1 card, so it's possible that the reader is broken. It's also possible that you're putting the card in the wrong way around. On a Sun Ray 1 the card goes in with the chip on the left, on a 100 it goes in with the chip down, on a 150 it goes with the chip away from you. There are little icons next to the card slot that try to indicate the correct orientation but they're hard to see.
No we inserted in the right way but to be really sure I have tested with insert the card in every possible way into the reader without any luck.
But yesterday I got borred so I open up the case of the "Sun Ray 1" and quickly find the plastic case for the Smart card reader, I softly pressed the plastic down and got a *click* sound, I than go back to put the cover of the Sun Ray back and start up the thin client again and then the smartcard reader work ;-) Now we have tested with login with the smartcard and it work just great.
However I have done some more testing with our Sun Ray unit and it seems like the Sun Ray reader in our unit is really sensitive because we now need to put the card slowly into the reader and often we need to test 2-3 times before we get the "gren light" on the smartcard reader and recogonize the reader.
So my conclusion is that the reader is broken because I don't think that Sun have build a system that is that sensitive about how you put the smartcard into the reader (beside the fact that you need to put it with the right side into the reader). But I will try to ask my boss to buy a 2:nd UNIT probable directly from Sun to test with. Or do you have any experience with that Sun Ray smartcard reader is to sensitive sometime (beside the fact that you need to put the card with the right side up)?
Kind regards
//Tommy
