I once had someone stick a "key card" into a card reader instead of their smart card. The key card was about 5x thicker, and bent all of the metal prongs that read the chip too wide, and wouldn't make contact. We tore it apart and tried to bend the prongs back, unsuccessfully, and then replaced the reader and it worked. It was on a 1G.

Hi,

I have a Sun Ray 150 that won't start up. The power LED is green but the smartcard reader LED stays on. According to the administrator's guide it
is a card reader hardware problem, and the DTU should be replaced.

I'd rather try repairing the unit myself. Hopefully it is simply a
matter of replacing the card reader part (it's quite easy to remove once
you pry the back cover off). If I look around I could maybe find a Sun
Ray with a broken screen or something to use for spare parts.

Has anyone successfully repaired a Sun Ray like this? In particular, I'd
like to know whether I would be wasting my time replacing the card
reader.

Thanks for your time,

Rodney
