Agreed. I'm running under Debian Linux, and even Acroread 7 for Linux
has some annoying performance issues when used as a plugin or
standalone (like some PDFs using 100% of a CPU). Evince is
lightweight and works well for
most things.
Adobe has turned Acroread into an advertising delivery mechanism.
I've fallen back to Acroread 5 (under OS X) because of the unbelievable
bloat.
