Hello all,

we have written a program that uses the serial port of a Sun Ray 170 to communicate with an external device. Each time a remote process requests a value via TCP, our little tool opens the serial port, sends the request string, receives the result string, closes the serial port and forwards the result string to the requesting process via TCP. Works great so far. However, today (after 5 days) the service stopped working. Opening the serial port fails. We restarted the service process. Same problem, the serial port can still not be opened. We unplugged the Sun Ray and waited a minute until SRS removed the devices from /tmp/SUNWut/units and repowered the Sun Ray. We then restarted the service and it started working again.

What could be the cause of this problem? Any idea how to track this down if the problem reoccurs?

Thanks!

Regards,

  Andreas
