This works very well, especially if you connect a PostScript-capable
printer. I've been using an old DTU connected to a Lexmark Optra e312
(a cheap PostScript laser printer) on a Solaris print queue for a few
years now.
But it's also unnecessary. If you have a print queue, it doesn't matter
if somebody is logged in or not, you can print to it.
In my case, I use the old DTU as a printer server since the printer is
physically not near any other DTUs that I use, so it's a matter of
using a separate DTU for convenience, not technical necessity.
