Otto, The problem occurs after a there is a lack of activity. The problem is very widespread, I just installed 800+ SunRay 2's and see the problem on a mass scale. I don't have a exact percentage, but I know its not workable as is. I know that power cycling corrects the problem for a short period. Will plugging the mouse directly into the SunRay2 wake it up, when the mouse is used? Its not really possible for our students to unplug the keyboard or mouse. Should I open a ticket with Sun? Any insight why this happens or a work around would really help.

Is the failure tied to a particular activity? (Or lack of activity, like a long period of the keyboard being left idle?) > ... There've been a handful of reports of this happening, including at least one on the sunray-users list just before Christmas. We hadn't been able to reproduce it inside Sun until last week when we were finally able to get it to happen with a keyboard we'd borrowed from a customer who had reported the failure. (This suggests that only a small number of keyboards might be susceptible, but that's no comfort if yours is one of them.) The USB guys are now trying to figure out what's going on when this keyboard goes dead. At the moment there's no known workaround short of power-cycling the Sun Ray or replugging the keyboard.
