OK, that's consistent with the keyboard we now have in the lab and with the description in <http://www.filibeto.org/pipermail/sunray-users/2006-December/005366.html>.
The problem is very widespread, I just installed 800+ SunRay 2's and see the problem on a mass scale. I don't have a exact percentage, but I know its not workable as is. I know that power cycling corrects the problem for a short period. Will plugging the mouse directly into the SunRay2 wake it up, when the mouse is used?
I haven't been closely involved with this issue but my understanding is that if the mouse is plugged directly into the Sun Ray then the mouse will function normally, and moving it will probably wake up the X server and therefore wake up the Sun Ray. (But note that some screenlockers, like 'xlock', will not wake up in response to mouse movement. They insist on keyboard input.) However, that's not really helpful because the keyboard will remain unresponsive until it gets replugged or the Sun Ray gets power-cycled.
Its not really possible for our students to unplug the keyboard or mouse. Should I open a ticket with Sun?
Yes, please do that. The people who are investigating this issue will probably be interested in finding out more about the Sun Rays and keyboards you have. It might be that the problem is related to, say, a particular manufacturing run of keyboards or Sun Rays or to a particular revision of keyboard firmware or Sun Ray firmware. Or maybe it's none of those things, we just don't know yet.
Any insight why this happens or a work around would really help.
When the USB guys figure it out I'll send to the list. OttoM. __ ottomeister Disclaimer: These are my opinions. I do not speak for my employer. _______________________________________________ SunRay-Users mailing list [email protected] http://www.filibeto.org/mailman/listinfo/sunray-users
