Are there any plans to make sunray service compatible with a newer
version of gdm?

There's no plan to supply a newer build of GDM with SRSS. The
plan is to keep shipping the old one until the distros start shipping
a build of GDM that can support Sun Ray. That would be GDM
2.14 or newer.

You could open a support call asking for Sun to figure out why
the SRSS build of GDM doesn't work with the pam_abl module.
If the reason is that there's a bug in the SRSS build of GDM
(that seems likely, given that it works with GDM 2.6) then maybe
Sun will backport the fix and release it as a patch to the SRSS
GDM.
