We're on a tight schedule, and come from the CDE world so we don't have
much knowledge of either. It's either gnome or KDE - no other options
are on the table. We run RHEL4/U5.

First question: Is there a way to disable one or the other so users
can't get to it?

If you just want to not offer a particular desktop at login time
then you can configure it out of the list of session choices that
GDM will offer. The SRSS GDM offers only Gnome by
default. If you want KDE or any other session type then you
can configure it into the session menu.

If you want to prevent users from executing a specific desktop
under any circumstances then either don't install it, or fix up
the permissions of its components so that normal users can't
execute them.

Third question: What is Sun's current support/compatability
with KDE like?

Sun tests SRSS on Linmux only with Gnome, and therefore
that's the only officially supported desktop. To the extent that
SRSS integrates with the desktop -- which is not much -- we
provide that integration only with Gnome.

Some Sun people and some customers use KDE and report
that it runs just fine (as expected -- it wants X11, SRSS
provides X11). We will investigate bug reports of SRSS X11
problems under KDE; I know we've fixed at least one SRSS
bug that was exposed by KDE.

Fourth question: Is linux kiosk supported with gnome? KDE?

The predefined kiosk desktops include one based on Gnome.
If you wanted one based on KDE then you'd have to generate
that configuration yourself.
