AMGH knows nothing about multihead. I think you mean "not supported
within a FoG", which is almost correct. You can use AMGH within
a FoG but only to pre-load the username (e.g. based on smartcard token)
during login. You shouldn't need AMGH within a FoG for session location
since FoGs do this natively. AMGH can extend the FoG session location
capability across FoGs.

Some people use VPNs across WANs to extend a logical subnet across
several layer-3 switches to solve this problem. If you can't get IP
multicast to work within your enterprise or you want to stick to a
strictly-supported model you might consider adding a new VPN subnet
across all your servers if your network supports it.

Unfortunately, AMGH is also not supported for mutlihead groups, which we

pretty much complimentary non-supported configurations! :-)

Subject: RE: [SunRay-Users] Multicast problems

If I understand it correctly, SUN uses AMGH, and there is a good blog of
an "AMGH How To Guide" here...
http://blogs.sun.com/bobd/

My problem is I'd like to setup failover groups across the WAN. But
according to our network guys, we don't route mutlicast across the WAN.
And AMGH still says its not currently supported for CAM/Kiosk mode. It
can be done, but requires a little customization. Myself, I have no
problem trying to do the customization, but as the only onsite Unix
Admin, and due to corporate requirements, I'd really rather not start
down the path of running in an "unsupported" configuration.
So I'm a bit stuck as to how I should go about implementing failover
groups across the WAN.

Any ideas?

Thanks,
Taylor
