Dear all,

I'm now running one of my SR2 units with a D-Link PWL50 converter; it has a PoE
input, and outputs DC12V and ethernet to my SunRay.

Knowing that it cannot supply the full potential draw of the SunRay with
powered USB2 devices and RS232, I wanted to test if I was anywhere near the
limit with the default setup (smartcard, USB keyboard and USB mouse). I plugged
in a 2.5W USB coffe-cup warmer with a built in hub, to draw some more power.
This has been running smoothly for an hour.

We *may* use PWL50 units for some of the rays, where the cabling savings are
most noticable.

I just wanted to add this feedback to Sun, in the hope that you may consider
building in PoE functionality in the rays of the future - I would expect that
the added cost to the unit would be near zero, given that PoE is a widely used
technology with standard components everywhere - and I can attest that it would
be a very welcome cable saver.

And, if anyone else is looking for cable savings, I can say that the PWL50 from
D-Link (no they are not paying me for this ;) seems to do the job - for common
setups where you do not need the full USB2+RS232 power draw. It's a little big
and clunky, but it's still smaller than the standard power brick.

Cheers,
