Did you try plugging them both in simultaneously and typing
a few keys on one, then the other, then back?

You said that some keys simply don't work. Do they do anything
at all? What happens if you run /usr/openwin/demo/xev from a
terminal, put focus into the 'xev' window and type these keys?
How do the keyboard event reports in the terminal window differ
from what you see when you hit those keys on the Type 6
keyboard?

Can you try these keyboards on the server's console?

These are both Sun Ray 1g units?

Keyboards do sometimes break, but I agree that it seems unlikely
that the keyboard chose this exact moment to fail. And you
have more than one Type 7 keyboard misbehaving in this way,
correct?

If you still have the old 4.0 RR/GA firmware images you could try
reverting to those to see if that changes the keyboard's behaviour.
None of the fixes in the patch should have affected keyboard
handling, and certainly none of them should have affected only
Type 7 Swiss-German keyboards, but if the old image works and
the new one fails then that narrows the possibilities.
