Think of "a" as in "activate". The interface or subnet must be
"activated" in order for SRSS to be able to communicate with DTUs. Is
that starting to make sense? Regardless, you can always test it and see
for yourself. If it doesn't work right, just run "utadm -r" to remove
any configuration, and re-run "utadm -a/A" to try again. You can read
the man pages for more details.

it is clear to me that the -L switch of utadm does something else then
configuring the DHCP server.
but what about -a and -A?
do they change any setting of the ray server?
or (so i thought so far) does -a and -A only configure DHCP?
