I wasn't suggesting you try the beta, just that we've focused on eliminating the delay that one sees when trying to watch videos.

I've tested this with XP and W2003, with SRWC and with Rdesktop and am not experiencing any kind of delay for simple system sounds.

Is the Terminal Server local to the Sun Ray Server? How many sessions are on the Terminal Server? It could very well be a scaling issue as well as I'm testing with one user attached.

In the control panel on Windows playing the sounds results in the delay.
Solaris has no delay.

Running solaris 10 x86 05/08 with latest patches
Running Sun Ray 4.1 and uttsc 2.0 with patches .

Not able to run the beta on this set up.

Cheers
Michael.

FWIW I just tested from both Solaris and Windows. Both were instant
sound as soon as I hit enter or released the mouse.

`cat ding.au > $AUDIODEV` resulted in instantaneous sound coming out

Control Panel, Sounds, playing any of the systems sounds were
instantaneous once the mouse was clicked.

Michael, Can you test the above scenarios and also let us know what
versions of SRSS and uttsc you are running (fully patched doesn't
tell us much) as well as the OS that is running SRSS.

What is the emulation package? To what type of system and where is
that system located relative to the Terminal servers?

Mark, I believe what you are refering to is audio and video being
out of sync. We have addressed the former with the beta that is
currently in beta by doing a direct decode of H.264 and VC-1 content.

This was one of the big problems I always had with sunray & it
        obviously
hasn't been resolved yet. Using the windows rdp client on a
conventional thin client it was pretty
good, yet through the sr2 a 4 second delay.
As far as I can see this problem is unique to sunray. Shame sun seem
unable to do anything about it :( I guess it is a limitation of
the device & the way the windows connector
        works.

        TerminalServices

This audio delay will happen on any RDP client without special
multi-media redirection. The extra hop the sound has to make in
your architecture is probably making the delay more noticeable.

The release in beta has support for VC-1 and mpeg h.264 direct
decode, but that doesn't sound like it would help with this
        application.

Since it's a terminal emulation package, have you considered
trying the application under Solaris as a lot of work had been
done in the recent past to remove as much latency as possible
        for softphones under Solaris.

            Hi
We have a fully patched sun ray server running uttsc to a
            windows 2003

            terminal server.
The users are using a terminal emulation program to access a
            character

            based ERP system.
All the sound through the rdp connection is delayed or lags
            about 4

        seconds.

I found on google searches that this was a problem back in
            2006 and

        Sun

            were working
            on fixing it.

Does anyone have any updates or a way to fix this?

It makes the Sun Ray nearly unusable because the users rely
on a beep sound to alert
them when scanning in stock to a warehouse. Without the
            beep they

        make

            mistakes which
            costs the company money.

            Thanks
            Michael.
