I've been looking for options for having our SunRays get a remote
linux desktop session. The ultimate goal would be for users to be
presented with the option of selecting a Windows or linux desktop when
they login. Right now, we just use uttsc as the default kiosk app.
I've been searching through the archives and on the wiki and on the
ThinkThin blog and have found references to using xnest and VNC. Is
there a howto out there some where that might describe the setup and
caveats for a remote linux desktop?
Worst case I could just have a separate linux server hosting SRSS for
one lab and just leaving uttsc on my current Sol10 server hosting my
other lab. This basically would eliminate the possibility of a
"dual-boot" setup, though.
Thanks.

For remoting linux, if you are using GNOME, then you can try start using
ssh -X or rsh to linux server and execute gnome-session, and you need to
enable X11 forwarding.
The other option is install freenx on Linux, and use nx client in
Solaris, you can obtain Linux and Solaris Sparc binary from
www.nomachine.com. And if you are running SRS on Solaris 10 x86, then
you can download nx client from:
http://www.kraftek.com/blog/index.php?/archives/227-NX+freenx-server-binary-tarball-for-Solaris-10-x86.html
Another option that worth to try is using xrdp
(http://xrdp.sourceforge.net/), then you can utilize uttsc (I haven't
test it, but theoretically, it should be worked with some limitations).
Thanks,
