Yes, this is a little nagging feature of Sun's displays (not only
Sunray 270's)
Practically every other TFT display I know (and we have quite
a collection of brands and nonames) has autoselection - if only one
entry of the device gets a video signal, then this signal gets
displayed. And when you accidentally press the source button, the
display comes back after 1-3 seconds. Since users normally do not only
press the source button - they also press other buttons and move the
mouse around - they are successful at the end. 
Exception: we have also some of Sun's own 17" and 19" TFT displays  
and there it happens from time to time that someone presses this button 
and gets stuck and asks for help with the "broken" monitor.

Is there some reason why sun's displays come without autoselection?
