Sorry, I'm a bit swamped and then am out of the office until Jan 5. So,
ping the alias again that week and I might be able to look into it.
However, I'm in training for two weeks starting Jan 12. It's unlikely
that I will be able to look more at this until February.

I have seen a case where Xsun also crashes when googleearth is remotely

yet.
I'm pretty sure, this is the same bug. We do not have a
Solaris-Workstation or SunRay either at the moment. If really needed, we
might can install one, but that's quiet expensive regarding working
time, so it should be one of the last ways to go.
Have you looked at any xorg.conf settings to turn off GLX?
I tried commenting out
Load "glx"
in /etc/X11/xorg.conf but this did not change anything. Is it at least
the correct location of the file or where is the config file for Xnewt
located at all?
However, if
you do, you probably wont' be able to run googleearth. If you have some
kind of stack trace from Xnewt crash, that might be helpful.
here's my backtrace of Xnewt after starting googleearth and thus crashing:

If you are interested, I can also provide a 32MB core dump (2380940
bytes compressed with bzip2) for deeper analysis (together with the
Xnewt sources, maybe?). You can access it via:
http://www.mpi-inf.mpg.de/~pcernko/XnewtVSgoogleearth.core.bz2
Let me know if/when I should do further tests, ...
So long,
