Have you looked at any xorg.conf settings to turn off GLX?

I tried commenting out

Load "glx"

in /etc/X11/xorg.conf but this did not change anything. Is it at least
the correct location of the file or where is the config file for Xnewt
located at all?
Sun Ray Xnewt server doesn't honour the configuration in

/etc/X11/xorg.conf file and AFAIK there is no configuration file it supports though some of the configuration such as XKB,Xinerama ,etc..can be done using utxconfig .

 However, if
you do, you probably wont' be able to run googleearth. If you have some
kind of stack trace from Xnewt crash, that might be helpful.

here's my backtrace of Xnewt after starting googleearth and thus crashing:

If you are interested, I can also provide a 32MB core dump (2380940
bytes compressed with bzip2) for deeper analysis (together with the
Xnewt sources, maybe?). You can access it via:

http://www.mpi-inf.mpg.de/~pcernko/XnewtVSgoogleearth.core.bz2

Let me know if/when I should do further tests, ...

So long,
