I'm a database guy, multi-threading/parallel processing is life.
The point is, just because it's an expensive server doesn't mean it'll be
good at everything.
Since the first week of January, there are more V440 and V490 SunFires
coming off lease and being sold on eBay for decent money. Not that eBay is
the best place to buy a server, but it's certainly not a terrible way to get
a home network going, especially for people like myself who enjoy tinkering
with stuff and don't mind if a personal project takes several months to
really gain momentum. But anyway...
And don't mind a lot of noise :). Sun's servers aren't designed with
homes in mind.
Personally, I use an Ultra 40 workstation as a home server since it's
next to my right ear much of the day. I do miss ILOM, however. If we'd
make a workstation with ILOM I'd be a happy camper, but that's not
likely to happen.
I wonder about the differentials in power consumption also, particularly
with my electricity rates going up by 30% this year. But we digress - I
doubt that Mudasar has a T1000 in his home.
I'm afraid that the message to Mudasar is that he might see improvement
with increased bandwidth, but his server looks like the real bottleneck.

He's not saying that the T1 is slow, it's just not suited to the task.
I'm saying both. To say that, "Well, it's not a good Sun Ray server because
the X server (and most applications!) aren't multi-threaded" is putting it
backwards.
