Actually, it's an *amazingly cheap* server, compared to its relatives.

Since the first week of January, there are more V440 and V490 SunFires coming off lease and being sold on eBay for decent money. Not that eBay is the best place to buy a server, but it's certainly not a terrible way to get a home network going, especially for people like myself who enjoy tinkering with stuff and don't mind if a personal project takes several months to really gain momentum. But anyway...

I've built quite a few company networks that way. And if configured properly, a V440 is pretty hard to slow down! I've got one in the next room that is doing *amazing* amounts of work. I absolutely adore those machines.

I'll be lighting up a pair of new (to us) Sun Fire 6800s in the next few weeks. THAT will be nice. They'll be doing drug interaction analysis and related processing.
