Hi, it's a bit unclear what your problem really is, but yes, in my
experience it is necessary to replace ksh with pdksh, or else utconfig
fails (from an earlier post on this list, no explanation as to why this
works).

I don't see any reason for this making it impossible to log in? Have you
set ksh as the login shell for root or something similar?
