A fix for this problem will be in the next SRSS 4.1 patch.
Thank you for reporting it. -Bob Jens Langner wrote:
Hello SunRayers, this is my first post to this mailing list. However, I do have checked the archives and couldn't find any solution for the problem I am reporting here now. We do have a large SUNray installation at our organisation with 90+ SUNrays connected to various Solaris and Linux-based SRSS. Here at our institute we do have certain old applications which required an 8bit PseudoColor visual to run. With versions previous to SRSS 4.1 we could perfectly switch those SUNrays or smartcard based tokens to use 8bit PseudoColor visual as the default (i.e. utxconfig -p default) and those application worked properly with it. However, with the new SRSS 4.1 incl. the latest -01 patch, we are running into severe problems here. I do have understood that for 8bit visuals I am bind to using SRSS 4.1 under Solaris. That's fine with us. I also understood that for using 8 bit PseudoColor I do have to switch to Xsun (i.e. utxconfig -b Xsun). However, as soon as I specify to use of 8bit PseudoColor as the default (either globally or based on a single token) the CDE login will never appear here and the Xserver seems to be constantly crashing/exiting. Here are the utxconfig settings: -- cut here -- DIMENSIONS=auto ENABLE_PSEUDOCOLOR_VISUAL=yes DEFAULT_PSEUDOCOLOR_VISUAL=yes ENABLE_MULTISCREEN=yes ENABLE_XINERAMA=no ENABLE_XKB=yes SCREEN_GEOMETRY=auto SCREEN_ORDER=auto XSERVER_PREF=Xsun -- cut here -- The interesting part is, that as soon as I disable 8bit PseudoColor as the default the Xsession correctly appears, however, our applications require to have 8bit PseudoColor enabled as the default visual. After some short investigation I found the following errors in the /var/dt/Xerrors file: -- cut here -- Fatal server error: WaitForSomething(): select: errno=22 X connection to :2.0 broken (explicit kill or server shutdown). Fri Jan 30 11:39:28 2009 error (pid 23150): Server for display :2 terminated unexpectedly 1 -- cut here -- And this is continuing endlessly. So the Xserver is tried to be continuously started and started without any success. Now I am of course curious if anyone else in here can reproduce this behaviour on his own Solaris10 SRSS4.1 installation? And if so, is there a known fix for that or something that can be done to have that situation resolved? We really do require 8bit PseudoColor visuals running as default, but all my attempts with SRSS 4.1 failed so far. So we are stuck with SRSS 4.0 until this issue is solved. Kind regards, jens
