Easy way to find out: Set up one of the existing Windows machines that is running CS4 already to allow remote terminal sessions. Connect to it using a different machine on the network and any RDP client (e.g. Windows RDP client, or rdesktop in Linux), and have a user play around with it and see if it performs acceptably well. Performance through uttsc on a Sun Ray will be very similar. It may perform better on a Sun Ray due to RDP->ALP optimisations, but someone more knowledgeable will need to chime in on that one. Something to keep in mind though, is that Windows XP, or 2k3 server will not support 32-bit colour over RDP, so that may affect the look of thing. > > I don't know much about MS Win stuff or the programs that run on the > platform, however I have quickly Google'd before writing this just so that I > had an idea of what it actually was and what is included in it! > > Basically I'm a bit concerned myself as I am fully aware of the Sun Ray's > poor video and 3D performance so I really wanted to check here before > actually going and designing a working Sun Ray infrastructure for the > network in question. I think it should be fine for standard graphic type work though. > > My knowledge of Sun Ray performance is quite limited due to only having a > Ray 1 client at home running over a wireless bridged network, using a Sun > Enterprise 420r server with 4 x 450MHz CPU running SXCE as the SRSS server. > Basically meaning that using a Ray 2, 2FS, or 270 client and proper machine; > say dual Xeon with 8GB+ RAM, I have no idea at the power increase over my > limited setup! You only need to concern yourself with the hardware that will be running the Windows sessions, as well as whether or not the application is usable over RDP. > > Can someone please give me some advice or an opinion on this matter so that > I can give my friend a translated response as he doesn't have any English??? > > Many thanks in advance! > > --Kaya > _______________________________________________ > SunRay-Users mailing list > [email protected] > http://www.filibeto.org/mailman/listinfo/sunray-users > -- Kind regards, John Francis _______________________________________________ SunRay-Users mailing list [email protected] http://www.filibeto.org/mailman/listinfo/sunray-users
