Hi Meik,

You are right, i used the wiki procedure at :
http://wiki.sun-rays.org/index.php/SRSS_4.1_on_Ubuntu_8.10_and_9.04_(i386%2C_amd64)

And with 9.04, SRSS 4.1 : no problem, it works with ubuntu :)

I tried SRSS4.1 with ubuntu 9.10 AMD64 : I have module compilation problem (because of the new kernel 2.6.31 i think). I tried SRSS4.2 with ubuntu 9.10 AMD64 and I386 : The procedure seems too far from 4.1 (wrong library links, patches didn't work ...)

For information : i find that i had to change apparmor profiles for dhcp3 with ubuntu 9.10 in /etc/apparmor.d/usr.sbin.dhcpd3 i added :

   # SUNRAY SERVER
   /etc/opt/SUNWut/net/dhcp/SunRay-options* r,
   /etc/opt/SUNWut/net/dhcp/SunRay-interface-eth1* r,

I could work on tests on January if you want to, just contact me.

Thanks,

Jacques-Olivier

Just to be clear, USB support is only for VDI style deployments. So you will need VDI 3.1 when it is available and serve your ubuntu desktops via that method. tUSB redirection is not supported when using server based computing (nor is Ubuntu supported as a host platform for SRSS)

Hello everyone,

This is my first message on this list, i am from France and i work in a university.

I have just received a SunRay server with 40 thin clients.

I am planning to use Ubuntu, i tried Ubuntu 9.04 with SRSS 4.1 and the wiki installation procedure, and ... it works fine (just had to do some gdm and dhcp conf changes ...).

I plan to use ubuntu 9.10 and SRSS 5 (for USB access ...), and all of these should be installed for january here !

I saw the post on ubuntu 9.10, and it is said that wiki page on SRSS 4.2 or/and 5 for ubuntu 9.10 will arrive soon, is it possible to know ... more ?

Craig: I believe that Jacques-Olivier refers to an unsupported installation of SRSS on an Ubuntu server. In the last couple of years, USB worked quite well
for SRSS on Ubuntu/Debian. I also think he refers to the wiki at
<http://wiki.sun-rays.org/index.php/How_To_Section>, not the one at
<http://wikis.sun.com/display/SRSS4dot2/Home>

Jacques-Olivier: I am the guy who wrote most of the "SRSS on Debian" stuff
on the wiki. At the moment I am quite busy and can't play with SRSS4.2 before January. But some weeks ago I installed an "SRSS4.2 early access 1"
on Debian without bigger problems.

I would guess that SRSS4.2 on Ubuntu 9.10 will work following the same steps as for SRSS4.1 on Ubuntu 9.04. Start with installing the legacy gdm package: "apt-get install gdm-2.20" (The newer gdm does not yet work with SRSS). Also, have a look at this bug: <https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gdm-2.20/+bug/445256>

I assume that you understand that all this stuff with SRSS on Ubuntu/Debian/...
is community work, totally unsupported by and independent of Sun.
But it's fun when it works!

Regards, Meik
