I also had a "black screen of death" but it was even worse: there wasn't a delay; rather, the TC screen stayed black no matter what. No mouse cursor, no keyboard, nothing. I resolved it by finding every file/directory in /tmp/SUNWut with the MAC address of the TC and deleting it [in one instance there was a file that contained the MAC and I deleted that line, in spite of the disclaimer of not editing the file].
