Gobi 8 supports also hsdpa. So it is not limited to wifi networks. See: http://www.accutechco.com/_download/gobi8.pdf Works fine. The first models had a limited accu capacity and were getting pretty hot. But I believe that is all fixed in later models.

For our setup serving XP desktop clones via VMWare they work just like our 270s only portable. Sweet. We're just using a kiosk session, so I can't answer to using them as static user desktops.
