Hi ,
I have spent the weekend trying to comprehend the
interdependicies between
the various components in the softwarestack
to achive usable Flash media performance on the SunRay 3
series of
thin clients.
My starting point was VDI 3.3.0 with Virtualbox 4.0.10
with windows XP SP3 + virtualbox 4.0.10 additions and the SRS windows
drivers from SRS 5.2
using windows internet explorer 8 with adobe
flash 10 addon. This setup delivers resonable multimedia performance for
360p and 480p resolutions.
After upgrading to VDI 3.4.0 + Sunray
Firmware from March 2012, with the same Virtualbox 4.0.10 windows XP Sp3
+ VBOX 4.0.10 additions + VDI 3.3.0 SRS windows drivers IE8 + adoble
flash 10
I still experience resonable to good flash adobe multimedia
performance . Even 720p resolution works with the SUNRAY 3 unit
connected to gigabit LAN.
When I try to introduce newer components in
the Virtualbox Stack , multimedia performance drops drastically.
I
could not implement virtualBox 4.1.14 at this point because of the new
remote VRDP authentication that does not let the session trough as it
defaults to "external"
and we dont have this configured at this point
in time.
I tried upgrade to Virtualbox 4.0.14 with windwos SRS
drivers from SRS 5.3 but without upgrading the virtualbox additions,
using the same IE8 and flash10
Also tried Flash 11, here too,
multimedia performance collapses to a stuttering slowness.
These
tests of mine is not performed on my home computer but on enterprise
class production systems .
I would be happy with a chart of some sort
where validated combination of software components that yield good Flash
multimedia performance is documented.
some thing like the following
compatability matrix is needed. ;
VDI Version, SRSFirmware version,
VirtualBox Version, MS-windows Version , Virtualbox additions version ,
SRS drivers for windows version , MS-IExplorer version Adobe Flash
Version .
Is this information documented somwhere ?
Regards
//Lars
