Just wanted to say "thanks" for hosting filibeto.org all these years -
it has been an invaluable resource for Sun systems in general, and for

As paying Sun and now Oracle customers (you know, the kind that Oracle
contends don't use or need community sites), I am once again completely
pissed off at Oracle's overbearing and community killing behaviour. This
is the second such email I have written in a week after the
wesolvesun.org site was shutdown earlier.
If Oracle's own support site were decent such behaviour would still be
reprehensible, but the MyOracle support site is so bad that we actively
try to avoid using it. Perhaps this is Oracle's intention as they obtain
revenue by forcing you to subscribe to the site, but can avoid invesing
in it by making it completely useless.
I will (again) complain to our sales representatives regarding this
behaviour, and I'm sure I will be completely ignored for the nth time.
This figures. I can't imagine Oracle's management team is really this
stupid, but perhaps they are.
I've been a Sun user, admin, and developer since the Sun-2 was
current. No, I don't mean SPARCstation-2, I mean the Multibus Sun-2
systems with Motorola 68010 CPUs running SunOS 3. I have purchased and
installed thousands (THOUSANDS!) of Sun systems across a dozen companies
I've worked for since then, and bought and sold hundreds more as a
consultant. I have been a loyal Sun customer for twenty years...and now
I'm looking at my rows of racks of glorious Sun hardware, with
performance and reliability that overgrown-video-game PCs can't touch,
and I'm facing the looming prospect of replacing them with PeeCees
running Linux. (and not Oracle's lame excuse for a "Linux distro"
either...does anyone actually run that??)
Oracle, it's time for you to wake up. People are eating your lunch.
If the current management team is truly this incompetent, they need to
step down for the good of their company and let someone who actually
understands the industry run things.
Thank heaven the source code for most of the important stuff is out
there so the community can do what it needs to do without Oracle's
involvement.
If I didn't know better, I'd guess this was another Microsoft-funded
internal corporate sabotage effort like Darl McBride's torpedoing of SCO
while at the helm.
