No, I don't have an external SCSI case.  I might borrow one to check it out.
I hope that doesn't ruin another drive.

I'm going to try the dead IDE drive in a Firewire case.  I just have to get
my Firewire card to work.  Tech support told me to try to remove and reseat
the card.  Otherwise, exchange it for a new card.  Some cards are doa.
