Is it my imagination or did that thread do everything but answer your
question ;-) Seemed to spin in every direction but your
direction....oh well.

I tend to think the XLR8 carrier card is perhaps the best product for
one who wants to over-clock and upgrade for a cheap price in the
future. But I can not be sure that 500mhz isn't the end of the line
for these cards. The mpe Carrier card version lets you use two G4
cards for multiprocessing but these top out at 450mhz . Faster
upgrades are an unknown for both cards at this time. It may be too
expensive to make the faster chips work with these cards time will
tell.If it is possible they will do it as their business depends on
faster upgrades or they soon won't have anyone to sell to.
Powerlogix currently has some of the best prices on their upgrade
cards. OWC has the powerlogix g3 500 mhz ,1024backside for $219.97
that is an amazing deal. There cards are easy to over-clock but don't
have quite as many settings as the XLR8 but that may not matter to
most people. Not sure if they work as well with older and mixed ram
or not .
PowerlogixG3 400mhz ,512mhz backside is an amazing $119.00!
G3400mhz,1024mhz backside is $149.97
in real world terms the back side cache 512 vers 1024 makes a major
difference ie.400mhz with 512 backside is = to 350mhz with 1024
backside so you loose apox 50mhz by going with the slower cache.
Powerlogix G4 450mhz,1024backside is $275.99 so G4's are still
commanding a premium price which most of us won't get much use out
of. Hope this info helps. Will S
