Kim, you might want to download a copy of Tome Viewer, for extracting
the LaserWriter software from the install CD. It is a handy little
program. It allows you to open the installer tomes on a CD, and extract
just the parts you want, rather than do a full reinstall of the system.
Someone else on this list recommended it. You can find it on
www.versiontracker.com and probably other sites too.

Any Mac laptop going back to around the Powerbook 5300 can handle those
apps and the internet. Portability aside, buying a laptop is probably
not much different from buying a desktop machine. The usual budget and
performance needs apply.
