A week ago I got some 1Gig Hard Drives and as an added bonus the seller tossed in Norton System Works v1.0 for the Mac. After a few days I got around to installing NSW1.0 to see what it had to offer. I soon found to my dismay that what it had to offer was apparant distruction of my perfectly operating Matshita 8X CD Rom. Shortly after installing Norton I tried to put another installer CD in the drive, that one did open after several minutes, But subsequent CD's get the not recognized by this computer warning. That incudes the Apple OS9 intaller CD and MacAddict CD's. I switched from Intechs CD/DVD Tools to FWB v3.0 to Apple CD/DVD v1.4 to no avail.
I stripped all of Norton's 47+ files from the hard drive ( I think I got them all ) but the damage remained. I still got the not recognized by this computer warning. Then I tried the patched version of Apple CD/DVD v1.4. Now the Apple OS9 CD loads in about 3.5 Minutes. But The 9.1 upgrade disc that I used to upgrade the S900 before Xmas gets the Not recognized by this computer warning. A MacAddict disk just loaded to the desktop in 3 minutes. Does anyone have any advice? Even a kind word would be appreciated before I start tommorrow to get a 4X out of my old Quadra 650 and swap out the Matshita. I need to install 9.1 on a spare 2Gig Barracuda (Wide Narrow SCSI) for the G3 on the History Project on Tuesday when I am supposed to install the newly arrived Apple OSX installer. I know you guys and gals will steer me straight. Ernie -- SuperMacs is sponsored by <http://lowendmac.com/> and...
