Hello Listers, My setup... I am presently running OS9.1, XLR8 G3
400MHZ (overclocked to 450), I have ram slots filled w/128mb sticks
(1gig) interleaved . 3 IDE drives WD 20 gig (5 partitions) & 1 IBM 20
gig (5 partitions) add'l WD 2gig Slaved and not partitioned... all
drives are formatted HFS Extended (Used either Intech Speedtools or
Apple Setup Utility) . I have 4 Video cards on hand, a twin turbo
(8), Ultimate REZ, Formac Pro 3, ATI Radeon Mac Edition (In use).

Here is the scenario, and maybe someone will enlighten and help me.
I've "Lost" the 2 IDE drives attached to an ATA 66 Tempo card in my
S900. The IBM 60GXP (Single) and the WD Caviar (Master), both drives
were partitioned (5) and a third drive 3 gig WD Caviar (Slaved) as a
scratch disk. All drives total 11 "disks" on the desktop and each
has a specific function... Specific Apps , Data and OS9.1. What
happened was my keyboard ADB cable was pulled out abruptly (a
Spike?) and the machine froze and I immediately restarted, upon
restart..It booted ok but what occurred from that point on...no
drives visible on the desktop, no finder, no apple menu, only the
"clock" could be seen and it did not display time correctly.

I spent last weekend in "recovery", and I'm writing from that very
machine. I've done everything I can think of to try to recover the
(2) 20 gig drives nothing has worked, stripped the machine &
reassembled, zapped PRAM
Software...Norton...Techtool...DiskWarrior...I've reattached and they
are "visible" with SCSI Probe, but won't mount, I would like to
recover the data on both drives, if that's not possible, I would at
least like to reformat, if I can get to that point. I've determined
that the Tempo card was damaged, upon loading the OS onto the
"Scratch" disk, I got a "Type 128 error..w/Bomb Icon in the dialogue
box" I replaced the card, error has not surfaced again. I am now
running from that scratch disk & an external SCSI drive for the time
being, and have decided to purchase another S900 to try to resurrect
those drives. I'm hoping to "Mount" on a"Fresh"machine...

Question#1 ...did a "Spike" occur or did my power supply fail at some
point? I think I've read somewhere that
"Slaving" is not always successful on this machine, the power supply
is not "Large enough"?
Question#2 ...has anyone used a data recovery service? they seem very
expensive. Alternatives?
Question#3 ...any tricks for mounting/troubleshooting that I'm not aware of?

The intent is to load OSX on my machine, I was at the time trying to
load OSX and was given info from the unsupported OSX list that my
CRDW is the thing holding me back from succeeding, running Xpostfacto
in Verbose mode gave me that feedback. I don't have the original
CDROM that was installed, I replaced it with a Yamaha burner the
2100S, the culprit...so I hope to accomplish two things, with the
"New" machine. I've learned a lot from this forum, its
great...Please any thoughts would be appreciated, Phillip
