You're welcome.

I have no idea what causes the problem. I wish I was a Mac
programmer, but I'm not. I've got Thin C and Think C and an older
Code Warrior Academic that comes with the Dave Marks books that are
supposed to be great at teaching Mac programming, and they sit on the
shelf and on the hard drive and don't get used...

What I've run into is that when using a 2940U2B card and a VST card
in the same machine under OS 9.1 all my HFS+ volumes disappeared.
Either card by itself was fine, and OS 8.6 was fine. To make things
weirder, having a bootable CD in teh CD drive at boot (but still
booting from the hard drive) made the problem go away, and strangely,
hooking an ancient external hard drive up to the external port on the
2940U2B made the problem go away.

Then I found the same problem with the VST and the E100 card, but I
didn't test it so much. I was busy with a different project when it
came up.

It sounds like this problem might also be related to hard disk
drivers in some way. My problems cropped up primarily while I was
using SoftRAID but I think I tried something else too.

Anyway, it makes me wonder if your problem was also related to your
ATA card in any way. I need to put a different LVD card or a
different ATA card in that first machine, but I don't know which
replacement might exhibit the same problems.

If it's something you'd rather not share with the whole list, feel
free. I only ask that you not send attachments without asking first,
and if you have Mac related questions, it's best to send those to the
whole list anyway.
