I have a EZQuest 60-gb external firewire that is formatted with Hard Disk Speed
Tools that has firewire support.
(All internal drives are running on HDST as well because one of the drives is not
a Apple supported drive.)
Anyway, as I reported a while back the throughput had to be dropped down a notch
from the highest setting for the firewire drive to read and write without locking
up the system. (HDST has an additional control panel when working with a firewire
drive.)
Since I am not a speed demon and got the external drive mainly as a backup and
storage (and to migrate to a newer machine), the performance penalty was not
investigated. Sometimes stability counts more then speed in our aging but
functional machines.
I am not trying to sell HDST, but it's been a good compliment to my setup and many
others have spoken well of the product.
