Will's point perfectly describes my experience upgrading to OS 9.1. I actually put in a second hard drive that I got on the cheap in order to facilitate my move from 8.1. After the fact, though, I stumbled onto a way to get my S900 to boot from the OEM (Matsushita) drive--something I'd never gotten it to do before. Holding down command-option-shift-delete never worked for me (and lots of others on this list have said the same thing). I could select the CD in the "Startup Disk" control panel, but I was always worried about relying on that method--since it meant I'd have to be able to get the machine to boot in the first place in order to boot from CD. After I upgraded to 9.1, I tried to boot from the CD just to see if it would work--I held down command-option-shift-delete, but it didn't work (just like it had never worked in the past): the computer booted from the hard drive as normal, except that it asked me if I wanted to rebuild the desktop. Just on a whim, I tried again by holding down CONTROL-option-shift-delete instead. This time, he machine booted right up from the CD. I was very surprised, to say the least, but also very pleased. This key combination was never mentioned in Umax's materials. (I just checked the online user's manul and knowledgebase again to be sure, because I had the sudden fear that maybe I had simply misread the materials for several years--that would have been mortifying). Maybe this is old news, but I'd never seen anyone mention it on the list, so I hoped it could benefit someone else whose machine, like mine, "wouldn't" boot from the CD. -bp __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!?
