Neil -
I'll go ahead and assume it's an external device and suggest one thing that may
help.
In HDST, go to Devices - Driver Tuning Options, select the firewire drive and drop
down the two settings one notch from optimal.
Sorry I can't remember the terms as I don't have my drive hooked up now.
Anyway, this helped my S900 setup with some problems I was initially blaming on PCI
card slot positions. Intead of selecting Driver Safe Mode, which sets it to the
lowest settings, experiement with dropping down the settings one notch at a time
from the top. This may require rebooting the machine each time for the settins to
take effect.
It's worth a try.
Although I don't have a 128 or larger firewire device, I wanted to mention the
driver tuning option in HDST.
