It has to change the name of the file because Windows doesnt accept 
characters like that in file names because the system uses it, and it isnt 
smart enough to know the difference. For instance.....

on the Mac....a file on your desktop named "MYFILE/NEW.jpg" would be illegal 
in WIndow's world...on the Mac...the directory structure of it would be 
something like C:/Desktop/MYFILE/NEW.jpg....which the Mac is smart enough to 
understand...on the PC....it would be looking for a folder on the Desktop 
named MYFILE, with a file inside named NEW.jpg.....get it? So for Window's 
conversion...the Mac automatically makes the name "PC safe". Otherwise, there 
would be problems with other file formats. I believe in OS9 they made this 
auto change to help out the PC users who were getting files that didnt work 
on their PC's still.
