After searching for several months, I bought a used Mitsubishi 21" monitor
that is only about a year old for $300.
The owner, who sells components out of his apartment, decided his personal
stuff would all be on PC notebooks.
It was purchased for my father who has failing eyesight.
I mention this because on a large monitor the text becomes much larger when
set at the lower resolution.
It may be worth spending some time on a search for a 21" monitor.
For your purpose, the lower resolution settings at thousands of colors will
do just fine even if you have a so-so video card.
