Late last month Phil posted a question about having a long delay after
startup on his C500 running OS 9.

Howie's suggested checking the Server Folder, inside the System Folder,
for any alias files. "...simply removing the server alias's from the
Server folder, in the System Folder, fixed the problem. Those alias's
being there attempt to open a file server at startup, and cause an
unusually long delay."

I was experiencing about a twenty second delay at startup, between the
splash screen/icon march and the loading of the desktop. Not knowing
any better, I assumed it was an OS 9 thing, or maybe the G3 upgrade, or
even the system needing more time to check the increased amount of RAM,
or a combo of these.

Well, our c600 had three server alias files in it and the 9600 had four,
as a result of our mini-network. Removing those server alias files
removed the start up delay.

Howie, you may have added years of productivity to my computing life!

Nancy
