Sorry I haven't followed this thread carefully - I can mention a couple things that may or may not help.
I'm still puttering along with a S900 base/250G3 that was purchased new in late 1998, near the end of Umax. With none of the internal SCSI configuration altered, such as the CD and the 4.6 gb 7200 rpm Western Digital drive, there has been no cold-boot problems when a UW card and drive were added, and then the IDE card and drive. I am able to use any of the volumes from these partitioned drives as a startup. Come to think of it, nothing has even been added to the internal SCSI chain. Numerous devices continue to be connected to the external SCSI port with no problems unless there is a SCSI ID conflict. This thread may be of interest to folks who are getting used units that had been upgraded/altered in various ways ? Maybe more prone to SCSI voodoo when the machine's history is sketchy at best. One suggestion, without having read all the postings, may be to strip the machine back to its original configuration and reinstall the others in some sort of the sequence following generally accepted SCSI rules. This may help discover some glitches along the way. Alan -- SuperMacs is sponsored by <http://lowendmac.com/> and...
