Hi Dave, Just out of curiosity, which OS version are we dealing with here? Couldn't find it stated explicitly in this thread 8^) The reason I ask is that I have noticed significant differences in the way the OS deals with PRAM and NVRAM at startup from System 7.x thru 8.1, 8.5 thru 9.0.4, and 9.1 thru 9.2.2. By way of example, check the threads concerning <Monitors change resolutions on restart/startup>. OMMs [a J700 and two S900s, tested with various CPU daughter cards, and with ixMicro TT and UltimateRez] there's never a problem getting the preferred screen resolution when booting into System 7.6.1, nor OS 8.1 [I don't mess with Mr. InBetween ;-) ]; with OS 8.6 thru 9.0.4 [I don't mess with Mr. InBetween ;-) ] it was more erratic; with OS 9.1 and beyond it's a <done deal> [fait accompli], the video card is totally verklempt and falls back to 640 X 800 pixels unless it can <read> the appropriate preference file soon enough--which doesn't happen when booting from a CD-ROM drive--unless there is hardware coercion per an adapter. To bring this back on topic, I've experienced similar behavior with the various versions of the control panel "Startup Disk". It just occurs to me, all of this information could be so much more readily disseminated via WIKI <http://twistedmatrix.com/users/jh.twistd/moin/moin.cgi/HelpForBeginners> HTH, paul -- Paul F.
