I have C500 too with a USB card. My guess is the cable's too long. That's the easy solution too. I see you're an Earthlinker like me. I have been pleased to use an Asante FriendlyNet 10/100 Cable/DSL Router. There are 2 models where one has a network print server connection and the other doesn't. It's very easy to set up. They have a Mac/PC manual and also online directions too at http://www.asante.com. My leaking brain forgot the price. There are 4 outlets and the box says connections for 4 groups (253 users). I have only 3 Macs and S900's hooked up without problems. I like the built in firewall too. The Earthlink connection is mostly higher than average speed too (here's a speed test site http://bandwidthplace.com/speedtest/). According to the site my connection at this time is graded as Fantastic with a download time of 7.1 seconds for a 1 MB file; so far I've been able to live with that kind of speed. Good luck.
